Campus apparently has a very healthy earthworm population. Or, at least, the ones people manage not to step on look pretty healthy.... Crushed earthworms make me sad.

Really waterlogged earthworms look like they're going to turn into jelly. They're also very hard to pick up. Slippery creatures.

I was dodging them literally every step part of the way to class. Trying to, anyway... there were fewer on the way back, but still quite a lot. I'll probably be trying to pick up more of them later when they've dried enough to get a hold of and some have gotten stuck on the concrete.

What gets me is how they can be right in the middle of a yard-thick sidewalk when it's raining. I don't understand it; they're rocket-powered or something. Maybe it wasn't safe keeping them in the basement like that . . . I do keep hearing funny noises, and they pretty much disappeared after that experiment . . .

Am suddenly very glad I'm at school and not alone with the dogs at home.
