Title: Minor Rescue
Fandom: Marvel Comics
Characters: Sigyn, kid-Loki
Rating: G
Word count: 500
Author's Note: For reasons I'm not even going to try to address here, Marvel's comicverse Loki died and was brought back as a kid who doesn't remember most of his previous self's behavior. As that behavior included many rounds of second chances and culminated in dragging them into a war that killed a lot of people who'd only recently returned from the last Ragnarok (it's been cyclical), it is perhaps understandable that most of Asgard is suspicious of the new version.

"Let him go." A woman's icy voice cut through the older man's growled threats and Loki's latest effort at sniping back. He got a look at her and determined that he had no idea who she was.

"But--"

"Just leave him to me."

Much to Loki's surprise, the man obeyed almost as fast as when Thor had come to the rescue. To his further surprise, Ikol -- who had not been much use in the preceding confrontation, but had at least hung around -- gave a sudden squawk and flapped away.

Loki rubbed his neck and looked at the woman warily. She could have her own cause and plans for vengeance; that might explain both the departures. "Thank you," he said, since whatever she might be planning, at the moment nobody was trying to choke him. "Ah... I assume I knew you before, but I'm afraid I don't now."

"Sigyn," she said, and handed him a bowl. Loki blinked. There was soup in it. "I don't know what you were up to when you didn't turn up for dinner, but I thought you might like something to eat."

"Ah." Loki's stomach growled. A little bewildered, he sat down with the soup on a broken stair. Sigyn sat beside him. He sniffed the soup tentatively. None of them could really be poisoned, but it could still have something nasty in it. Smelled good, though. "So, my previous self was, to you....?" he prompted, lifting the bowl to his lips.

"My husband," she said, and Loki nearly inhaled a mouthful of soup.

"Well," he wheezed, "I may not be ready for that sort of commitment yet this time around."

She laughed. "You might be a little young for me right now, yes."

"Was I... was he... ah, was he good to you?"

"Fairly obnoxious, actually. He killed and impersonated the man I'd meant to marry. Then, once he had me, he didn't seem to be able to stand me."

"Oh." Loki sighed a little. After everything else he'd found out, he wasn't exactly surprised. "Sorry about that. Um, wouldn't it have made more sense to divorce him? Or wouldn't he go along with it?"

Sigyn smirked. "He claimed we had. But I... I never seemed to be quite able to let go. Now that we know we were living in cycles, I suspect I did something rash and binding in a previous one where we got along better, and it carried over." She stretched her legs out, crossed at the ankles, and added in a tone Loki knew in his own throat, "And it did drive him up the wall that I insisted."

"You've been picking up slang from Midgard," Loki observed. "But in that case, why are you being nice to me?"

Sigyn ruffled his hair. Loki ducked aside to the point that he actually fell over, though he managed not to spill the soup. "A chance to get away with that," she said. "And somebody has to be."

"Sigyn," she said, and handed him a bowl.

I did a spit-take at that :D

Even not knowing much about the comics version of Asgard, I really enjoyed this. I really like the idea of a version of Sigyn and Loki who could get along.

*grins* The real reason Loki missed dinner in this fic is so Sigyn could show up with a bowl.

I'm glad you liked it. I had fun writing it. I'm not sure where comicverse-Sigyn is currently -- apparently she hasn't turned up in a while -- but I can only imagine Loki's current condition would be weird for her.

Oh, hi! Thank you. :)

I'm afraid I haven't commented (er, obviously, I guess), but sometime between writing this and getting around to posting it, I found your story and kind of cracked up that we both had Ikol promptly flying off when Sigyn showed up.
