Aug. 24th, 2007 04:16 amThe ylang ylang still smells weirdly smoky, but after I had a bit on my wrists for a while, I started noticing it seemed nicer, a little sweeter. Still, maybe I'll try the other brand next time. They have the complete distillation instead of just III, and while they smelled pretty similar in the tester last time I was there, neither smelled as good as the other brand did a few weeks ago. Maybe I would have noticed more difference at another time.
Easy Spirit is having a really good sale on shoes. Some $70 ones that I got at half price are now down to $20 along with many others; others are marked down to $30 or $40. Still haven't found a good replacement for my favorite easy-walking sandals that will pass for dressy if you don't look too close. Bah.
I entered the Finish-a-thon at
multific. Entrants list up to ten story ideas they'd like to get on with, and then there's a poll to decide which one they have to focus on and either finish or get 10,000 words into by the deadline. I will invite you all over to my poll when it's up.
Meanwhile, the contents:
1. Fandom: Harry Potter
Description: "Something Better Than This," my seventh-year fic started before Deathly Hallows came out. Currently, seventeen chapters are up and Salazar Slytherin has just been made Head of Gryffindor.
Type: gen with het pairings
Rating: PG, maybe PG-13
2. Fandom: X-Men and related comics
Description: "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," set in Alicia McKenzie's shared Shadowlands universe. Reality has fractured, different timelines, universes, past and future bleeding into each other across "shifts" that can sweep through and separate... or kill, since not every reality is survivable. En Sabah Nur, from a universe in which he never became the villain Apocalypse, reaches Oasis where Franklin Richards is holding a haven together. This becomes exciting and absurd, since many of the people there only know him as a very formidable enemy in many timelines. Four chapters are posted, all from long enough ago that there may be some stylistic disruption.
Type: gen with het developing
Rating: PG, tops
3. Fandom: Herbie Rides Again/Young Wizards crossover
Description: Isn't the combination of fandoms all you need to know? Okay, Kit's old enough to drive and buys a car out of a junkyard that turns out to be Herbie. Then he and Nita and Herbie all get drawn back into the side-world they visited as part of their Ordeal, for some unfinished business.
Type: gen
Rating: G/PG
4. Fandom: Star Wars
Description: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, and Asajj Ventress stuck on a ship together. Things kind of go from there. None of it is posted, but on my hard drive, Anakin is taking apart the sublight engines while they are in hyperspace, and Dooku is trying to recruit Obi-Wan.
Type: gen, although Asajj probably wouldn't mind if it weren't
Rating: PG
5. Fandom: Neopets
Description: Lord Darigan's Nebuchadnezzar-in-the-fields period as the Bat-Thing, when he lived amnesiac and acting like a wild animal in Meridell's fields during the Battle for Meridell plot. Focus on his growing friendship with the farmer-girl Sally who looks after him.
Type: gen
Rating: G
6. Fandom: X-Men comics
Description: An AU with a Cable/Moira pairing and Cable training Proteus. Because there were definitely sparks for that pairing, and you'd think "What is, is" might help a reality-warper with a shaky grasp on reality.
Type: het
Rating: PG-13
7. Fandom: Harry Potter, Norse mythology
Description: Helga Hufflepuff goes seeking a mentor: Loki's wife Sigyn. I've posted a very short version of this, but I think I could do more with it.
Type: gen focus, though obviously Sigyn/Loki is present
Rating: PG-13 at most
8. Fandom: Neopets
Description: "Kayla and the Mortog King," in which Kayla accidentally turns King Skarl into a frog.
Type: gen
Rating: G
9. Fandom: Star Wars
Description: After Luke and Anakin demonstrated it could be done, Qui-Gon has been very determined to get hold of Dooku and give him a last chance at repentance and redemption.
Type: gen
Rating: PG
10. Fandom: Star Wars/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory crossover
Description: Jedi Padawan Tallisibeth "Scout" Enwandung-Esterhazy is shunted into another reality during the Jedi Purges, where she meets a dentist named Wilbur Wonka and eventually falls in love with him.
Type: het
Rating: PG
----
It occurs to me that perhaps I should have clarified, for that last one, that she meets a young dentist (in other words, Wilbur does not look like Count Dooku yet) and is Willy's mother. Which means she has to end up dead or re-yoinked into her own universe eventually, since I don't really see her just leaving.

I don't know what's wrong with me when I'm sleep-deprived, that I am more aware of my friends' preferences in diction than I am of the likelihood that they are gnawing at their wrists because of perfume-induced despair. *facepalm*

Date: 2007-08-26 06:05 am (UTC)Considering some of the things I come up with when I'm tired and/or half asleep, the thought process you describe actually sounds rather familiar. Not in specifics, just the general feel of it.
Er, sorry to have worried you. I feel I should assure you that if I put on a really dire scent, I will most likely go wash it off. Even if it actually did make me want to gnaw my wrists in despair, I would probably discover it tasted terrible.
