dreagoddess and I have just been informed that it's impossible for Tom and Hagrid to be brothers, because Tom's father was a Muggle and Hagrid's parents were a wizard and a giantess.
Well, yes, this is accurate as far as it goes. And Tom's mother was, in canon, years dead by the time either boy would have been in Hogwarts. That would be why the story is labeled as part of the Stepbrothers AU series.
