...to Andrea during the Bar.

...to Alan while moving.

...for a general abundance of fun and lack of serious crises at Dexcon.

I have seen a couple of comments lately regarding plausibility in fanfic. I find it oddly disappointing to see someone who often makes excellent points make comments (such as how if you've really thought about it, it becomes obvious that Tom Riddle could never have had a girlfriend at Hogwarts) indicating that she'd probably never find my idea of potential backgrounds or AU differences readable. Yes, obviously this is a selfish disappointment rather than a case of actually thinking there's something wrong with such people for the conclusion. ;)

Sometimes I wonder whether people worried over the outcome of certain events in the Stepbrothers series because Drea and I did a really good job of connecting the AU Riddle to his canon-self's personality, or we did a really bad job of showing the family relationships, or we did a really good job of making at least a few readers care about them, or we're just very confusing, or good at suspense, or the readers were just thinking "This is in The Dark Arts and it's a Tom Riddle story -- does that mean everything has to fall apart at the end?"

Sometimes I wonder whether I am making any sense.

I feel a bit like posting on the intersection of politics and religion, and other people's opinions thereof, but I have other things I'm supposed to be doing and it would take too long. So I am going to make my eyes STOP doing whatever this annoying thing is where apparently trying to gaze through the computer screen and into space causes my field of vision to do this odd lazy pseudo-side-to-side vibration thing and get back to Prekin.

And make a note to stare into space in some other direction next time I feel the need. Bleah.

I've decided to support the god who promises us mortals the most days of rest, so that you get more time to post on things rather than doing what you're supposed to.

Well, no, not really, but if things actually worked that way, I might briefly consider it before realizing that other issues are more important than days of rest, like life after death and treatment of non-co-religionists, and whether they'd been involved in scandals and stuff.

*snicker* You'd probably be expected to use the others extra productively, though, which might not be a bad thing in practical terms. Depending on what you were supposed to be doing, anyway.

I'm now picturing a fully acknowledged polytheistic system where proselytizing consisted of commercials with a remarkable resemblance to those of cell phone companies. Thanks a lot. ;)

I like your icon.

Well, if you were supposed to study your State Holy Book or something, it'd be all right, I guess. Dunno about praying, though I'd definitely be all for it if it involved singing.

Now, does your system have parties? I mean, of the Liberal/Conservative type. And all of those commercials would start sounding the same, wouldn't they? "VOTE [insert name here]! For the one right way to live!"

And thanks, I made the icon myself. There should be more SlytherinStatue!icons out there, seeing as there's all these Slytherins running around the fandom.

Hysterics like me?

Yes : a really good job of connecting the AU Riddle to his canon-self's personality, a really good job of making at least a few readers care about them, and good at suspense,

No on the family relationships, they were fabulous. Seriously, you got me, at least, very heavily involved in the characters, and their potential. And worried, because you were so true to canon (:

I'll add good luck to Andrea and Alan (: Hopefully some unfinished stories will get done sooner, lol.

Any idea when you're going to find out about your queen? I saw some reassuring news on your earlier post (:

*blushes*

I wouldn't call you a hysteric. :) We did have fun planting a few more ominous hints, like Tom not explaining what he was up to until he got caught, I admit.

One of the fun parts of AU-ing, for me, is deciding what events will and won't change -- what accepting the "What if...." couldn't affect (though that got... er... a little muddled as far as Time's Riddle went, since I started "Who We Are" without reading PoA and technically split it during the summer instead of at the really key event, which required rearranging Sirius's escape when we wanted him for reasons having nothing to do with Voldemort's odd behavior) and what it ought to change. Tom's ambition, drive to excel, and pride in at least the magical half of his heritage would if anything only be intensified by growing up with Mary -- but most of the canon-Tom's resentments would be greatly tempered, and while I suppose the interpretation could be made that he might take Rubeus for granted, we couldn't see him discarding somebody he loves. Of course, to be fair, it probably helped that we made the basilisk non-ravening (Canon-Tom drove her insane. Really. Okay, so no evidence, but the basilisk is much more fun with the potential to be friendly.) and Dumbledore... ah... understanding. :)

There is a stray Dumbledore in my mind whose great-grandparents included a blind Parselmouth and a basilisk-transfigured-to-human because she loved him. This worries some people.

*blinks* Peanut...Gallery? Karie? KARIE!! *tackles and hugs* WHY did I not know you have an LJ? *friends immediately*

You were definitely not overly hysterical. It was very nice to see someone actually get emotionally involved in my characters! I was worried that people would be disappointed we didn't go dark...of course, we also have around 5 reviews for most of the series, so maybe most were. Ah well. You made up for them. ;) (And if you never read the Reviewer Appreciation thread...*cough* Do so?)

Sorry for bounding in here (I tracked over from your comments in [livejournal.com profile] kaylarudbek's journal) but I'm interested to hear the arguments as to why Riddle couldn't have had a girlfriend at Hogwarts (I agree that there's no evidence that he did). I'd be interested to see how it is logically precluded.

It can't, I think, surely be the failure of most people to link Riddle with Voldemort, since that merely postulates that any girlfriend was either dim, memory-charmed or dead before the situation became relevant.

*facepalms* I'm don't actually remember what they are, unfortunately, though I'm sure they they did go deeper than that. And heck, a hypothetical girlfriend could have agreed with him, or it could've been a mutual breakup (brief relationship in fourth year, got bored, whatever?) and they never paid much attention to each other again.

And don't be sorry; it's no problem. (I've liked that icon since I first saw it, by the way. Was reading your journal intermittently after... uh, I think I saw you get into an argument about Neville in somebody else's comments, or were linked during one?)

I should probably stay out of that sort of thing, though (re: the comments). *looks rueful* Debate is not so much my strong point, and you two probably do better without me.
