Yesterday, I visited my parents, and while it was evening and we had other things to do besides look into the beehive, we did look at the beehive.
Let me set the scene. The beehive stands on some cinderblocks near the edge of what used to be my great-grandmother's herb garden and is now basically a slightly raised bed of overgrown mint, lemon baum, who-knows-what-else, a stray maple tree about a foot high, and a large bush that was planted in the middle by mistake many years ago and never moved. I may or may not have remembered to mention this, but though I lost my colony over the winter, I didn't put away the equipment properly and a swarm moved in around the end of May. The population appears to have come up rather nicely, and there were bees all over the hive entrance, hanging out. They do this a lot during the summer.
But what cracked me up was that some of the mint was leaning over onto the "porch" at the hive entrance, and several bees were sucking up nectar without even having to take wing.

Dad says they seem to be pleasant. Unlike the yellowjackets which are apparently nesting under one of our bushes. Ick.
