Your Majesty, WHERE ARE YOU?
Jun. 15th, 2003 06:24 pmBother.
Eighteen days since my bees decided to swarm. Ten and nine since the two afterswarms. Stupid bees. I GAVE them extra room, they haven't had a lack of food (aside from the feeding, it's been raining a lot, and they've been drawing out comb in the upper brood chamber and storing a fair amount of nectar...), they're still bringing back pollen -- and there is no brood. Well, there are a few capped drone cells; there was a drone looking out of one at me on his way out. There are a few queen cells, open. From what I've read, there's still a chance (from the timing) that there's a queen there who just hasn't had time to mate and start laying -- and the bees seem to have been behaving perfectly normally since the last swarm and have certainly been busy -- but I would still like to say: ARGH!
I suppose I'd better order a new queen in case there isn't one and/or they lost her. And probably email Mike. Sigh. At least I didn't see any sign of wax moths.
On the bright side, they didn't throw too much of a fit when I lost my grip on a frame and bashed open some of their capped honey on the corner of the hive. Ouch.
