Regarding the Evil Overlord List...

...Noting that items on it are not guaranteed to apply to individuals who are not evil overlords, I have this nagging feeling that I have at some point encountered an example (in some story) where turning into a snake did help somebody.

I can't remember who this might have been, however.

Um...I can't remember which one it was, but one of the (good) Severus-adopts-Harry fics had a snake animagus Severus the only one able to get through protective wards to rescue Harry when he was close to death. And got the bad guy to remove the it'll-kill-you-if-you-step-out-of-the-cell amulet by biting him, then transforming back and holding the venom antidote tantalizingly out of reach. ;)

Hmmm... There are good Naga characters in the Zanth series. (Piers Anthony) I believe in one of the early books in the series, one is affianced to a main character without him realizing she sometimes goes all long and scaly- what she is is revealed when she needs to take snakey form to bail the partys asse(t)s out of a tight situation, IIRC.

Read it a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure it was Zanth- if not it was a similar light fantasy from about the same era (Early -mid 80's) I read a lot of stuff like Zanth, the out of Phase series, etc.

Heh, I do remember Anthony's Naga. Good one, especially since I was sort of going for somebody besides the villain turning into a snake and failed to specify. :)
