I feel the urge to write an entry regarding stories, reviews, and different types of reactions to both, sparked by a comment in a thread which boils down to "Actually, I hope newbies don't read this thread, because any review is appreciated and the sort of demands you're making are likely to turn people off trying" and a comment in another thread about how people may avoid reading a certain type of story because the authors frequently seem to be doing it "just to see if they can."

My thoughts on the subject are not well enough organized at the moment to do so coherently, and I need to be doing other things, so I'm leaving a remark and perhaps I'll come edit this post into something more interesting later.
