Standard Rant
Jul. 9th, 2003 02:48 pmWhy, why, WHY must people insist on taking the existence of flaws or screwups in a character overall basically presented as sympathetic and/or having their heart in the right place, or trying to, and concluding from this that the character is hopelessly despicable/worthless/doomed to get worse and worse and so forth? Honestly.
This is especially incongruous given the tendency to take any hint of a redeeming feature in characters who are NOT overall presented as sympathetic (in this context, "hot" counts as a redeeming feature, but it's not the only option) and side with them heartily.
I am not very consistent, however, since the latter frequently doesn't annoy me as much.
