Stuffed with Fluff -- Pooh fic

Title: Stuffed with Fluff
Author: [livejournal.com profile] persephone_kore
Summary: Kanga and Tigger make a baby.
Rating: Totally innocent. Trust me.
Author's note: After the fic.

They had decided their first child should look like her.

It was simplest that way. The joey would have to fit into her pouch, for one thing. For another, they couldn't quite figure out how to mix the disparate types of anatomy. She was a kangaroo. He was a tiger -- sort of. His bottom really was made out of springs, at least partly. Shapes that fit together quite well for some purposes just didn't make sense when combined in a single being. She had studied the first few sketches in silence for several long moments before looking up, one paw curving over her mouth and eyes wide -- and then, guiltily, she had giggled. And when someone who thought platypuses were normal laughed at the idea, well....

Besides, he thought she was beautiful.

They had gathered the materials -- not the most expensive, but of good quality and a decent match to her fur. (She'd been tempted by a lovely orange-and-black stripy pattern, but by then they had decided that the proper strategy was to draw as little comment as possible.)

Now Kanga was threading a needle for the umpteenth time, and Tigger, uncharacteristically solemn, held the heavy plush fabric for her to shape.

At last they completed the finishing touches. Each took a soft little paw; each clung to the other as well. And they imagined, very hard, what their little one was to be like.

She thought she heard a soft chortle from Tigger, but when she glanced over, he looked as anxiously excited as she, and was holding remarkably still.

Then the joey's strong tail gave a twitch, and his feet patted the ground for the first time. And then he gave such a bound that he flipped himself right over between their hands and let out a bubbling laugh.

"Wahoo!" Tigger jumped as well, snatching the child off the ground and carrying him into the air before handing him back to his mother.

Kanga tucked him into her pouch, beaming. "Hello, Roo."

So, [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain posted on the question of assorted possibilities regarding Kanga's love life and Roo's father. The "mixed marriage with Tigger" theory led me to speculate on whether that would actually explain Roo without technological assistance, but from there it went to, "Well, they are stuffed animals, and this is occasionally acknowledged in-story. Think of Eeyore's tail."

This is so adorable! I absolutely loved "And they imagined, very hard, what their little one was to be like" which is just perfect for Pooh's Corner.

And now I'm kicking myself for passing over the Pooh icons when I was updating this morning.

*giggles* Thank you! I got into the idea that the child of two stuffed toys might have to be assembled, and then there needed to be a transition into personhood. I'm glad it felt right.

(On reflection, I suppose what they had in mind might start working its way in very early, with the kid watching parts of his own assembly with interest, but that... might have to be a different sort of story, at least if I were writing it.)

I agree, that would be a different sort of story. An interesting thought, though!

Tigger/Kanga!

Oh, I am so a shipper.

*giggles* Thanks. I think I generally see it as more of a semi-parent-child relationship, but yesterday this just snagged my brain. And it is cute. :)

That's so sweet (: I never would have thought of it, but it is (:

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have thought of it either!

Wow, that's really lovely. ^_^ Wonderfully original idea. Thanks for sharing it!

Thanks. :) It was mostly from the post over in [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain's journal, though -- only the method was my contribution.

I cannot believe I didn't comment on this at the time, but this is ridiculously adorable, especially the line about platypuses :)

Eee, thank you! (I couldn't resist the platypuses.)
