*yawn* Somebody compared Godric/Rowena to H/Hr again, this time on the "Why is it always Rowena/Salazar?" thread over on FA.

I wonder if I'd get in trouble for saying, "Well, I see what you mean -- I realize romance and attraction weren't so much of a priority in marriage back then. I prefer to think of the Godric/Rowena pairing as having a little more spark, though."

Well, my personal set-up (not used for anything except a Sorting song, so far) is that Godric was the youngest, barely an adult when they started the school. Helga was an elderly widow who'd raised a houseful of children and had been Godric's tutor as a child in matters of magic, particularly Herbology and "practical magic". Rowena was a nun of indeterminate age who took care of the "book-learning" aspect of education. Salazar was part of the invading enemy force, their enfant terrible, about eight years older than Godric. Because Salazar was being used against his will as a child, he was allowed to live and went off to the fens, and little Godric, much to his guardians' annoyance, would visit him. When Godric came of age with his wacky idea for a school, he wanted his old teachers Helga and Rowena, and argued passionately to include Slytherin as well. (After all, the Sorting hat goes on about how Slytherin and Gryffindor were friends, as were Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.) Thinking of them as at totally different phases of life--not something I ever thought about exactly; it's just how they came to me--is probably why the shipping never occurred to me! It would be like shipping Harry/Molly.

(If that's shipped, I don't want to know about it.)

Ewwww! I bet someone, somewhere does (although many of the people I like to call "weird shippers" don't really like Molly so...), and I too don't ever want to know for sure.

I've seen Harry/Molly, I think, but not so much actual shipping as writing it just to be... well... you know.

I'd start a thread just to see if there were any takers, but man, it would squick me too much to actually know.

...I'm half surprised to find that according to the master ship list, there isn't one already.

Though the Salazar/Hermione one actually holds some interest for me. Or could, if done well. (Does it count as promising that the last post before it went dormant rejected the idea that they'd nickname each other?)

Nah. It just turned into a general sort of "Why do people invest themselves in stuff that's going to be self-evidently contradicted?" rant.

This is the reason I've long since abandoned the ships. They're just *insane*.
Is there a Regulus/Sirius one yet? Last time I checked, there wasn't. And that one is at least more plausible than time-travel... and c'mon, if you're going to ship Dobby/Hagrid or The Giant Squid/ANYBODY, what's a little incest?
(Salazar/Hermione? Hmm... there's probably a lot of Salazar/Tom... what about Salazar/Harry?

Well, I'd prefer time travel to incest, frankly. Though there are plenty of incestuous ones up there.

Good point... incest being a rather squicky subject. I think I prefer time-travel too (except when it results in Snape/Hermione, Remus/Hermione, Sirius/Hermione, Sirius/Harry or any of those... ack!) although in certain cases, properly treated incest can be extremely angstily poignant.

I have... way too many sets of Founders in my head. Some of them are all approximately the same age, some it's hard to tell, and in one of them Helga was Rowena's and Godric's daughter and Salazar was very loosely inspired by/adapted from Gavroche in Les Miserables. (I'm not sure that one's workable after OotP, though I kind of liked my starting fragment.)

I'll be interested in seeing it if you ever decide to do more with your set....

*shuffles cards* I'll trade you two evil Salazars and a Helga as Rowena's daughter for a Helga as Rowena's servant, Godric as a monk, or a Rowena that's a time-traveled Hermione. (;

I still prefer Helga the Viking to . . . just about anything, really, though. Especially with all that detail you found about Skarthaborg. :)

We need to get back to that. I think I could tweak the Animagus conversation without too much trouble, really....
