Today... er, yesterday... was not impressive. I was almost completely useless in lab (shhh) because instead of either plowing through a mild headache or curling up for a nap, I succumbed to the temptation to dawdle.

I really need to stop that.

I also seem to need to reduce my caffeine intake, given the suspicion that I'm reaching the point not only of being able to fall asleep right after a Coke but of not being appreciably awakened by one.

Please do not suggest coffee. And Jolt cola, while intriguing in a way, scares me. ;)

Much of what I needed to be useful for was studying. I've done some of that since I got home, but am still not impressed. And I think I'd better go to bed before too long....

The moon's almost full and very bright. I'm sure there's a better way to say it than that it looked like somebody turned up the contrast on the sky; clearly I've been spending too much time staring at computer screens? I felt much better after the walk home... well, not much of a walk home. It was late enough I called the campus ride people, so it was only maybe a quarter mile. Pretty pretty night.

The Shangri-Las have a "definitive collection" CD out as of 2002. It's called Myrmidons of Melodrama. This seems very appropriate from what I know of their songs. (Granted this is a sample of two, plus reading lyrics from three more.)

One week from today (yesterday, bother) I have to turn in a document on how crystallography and NMR work for macromolecular structure determination (and a bit on some active sites). This is because my thesis committee liked the project and my document and presentation just fine, but I hadn't reviewed adequately and pretty much botched being examined on the background details. Sigh. I'm still attacking crystallography at the moment. I should finish it and review NMR (in somewhat less detail, for various reasons) tomorrow, then try to dig through my collection of examples... try for a draft by the end of Friday, that would be good. Perhaps a bit overambitious, but good.

Vague to-do list:
Keep up with Bible reading
Wash hair (tonight)
Dishes
Study crystallography
Finish going through PI's class notes on crystallography and give requested suggestions
Study NMR
Study active sites
Compose document (preferably by Friday, definitely by Monday)
Edit document-->Deliver 2/10
Call about seminar and dinner, since my email received no response
Volunteer to put up poster for recruiting weekend thing. Not like I have to make a new one or anything...
Get perpendiculars for RNA and DNA
Write text to add to website
Update Wikipedia (after figuring out what I was updating it about -- oh, yes, Raster3D) -- not urgent, but it'd get it off my mind
Polymerase delta text (far too much delayed...)
Do taxes (this weekend, I hope)
Make donation
Help with recruiting (next weekend, and yes, we DO consistently have recruiting weekend as close to Valentine's day as possible....)
Figure out alternate-date Valentine's celebration. :)
Register for Graduate Research Day (think the deadline's the 18th; it'll probably be extended, but I shouldn't count on it)
Beta for [livejournal.com profile] labellementeuse (If you're reading this, I apologize for taking so long. Should I apologize for your username reminding me of Esemeli?)
Commentaries for [livejournal.com profile] dreagoddess who was kind enough to request them and is being patient. (I apologize to you too.)
Get shoes (possibly also this weekend). Current sneakers seem to be falling apart and/or attacking me.

Things I want to do and/or need to do, but less urgently:
Laundry
Get reimbursed for joining RNA society
Review health insurance policies
Refresh backups
Evaluate January. More accurately, evaluate my personal conduct in January. The month itself was a (moderately eventful) month. Brief version: some good points, needs work. Note: the further into February, the more pointless this becomes.
Register for RNA Society Meeting 2004 -- before end of March, I believe.
Get my teeth professionally examined. One of them is behaving strangely, and it's a good thing to do intermittently anyway.
Get hair cut. It's becoming a minor nuisance.
Show Mom magnets.
Reformat new hard drive and make main one.
Filing (Including a large garbage category -- I accumulate paper alarmingly.)
Clean out purse. I wonder if it's washable?
Clean up desk.
Clean out email accounts.
Web page? Fics, recs.... I have more HPfic recs than, er, anything else. Could do YW recs. Random things I've been linked to that I liked, if I can find them. X-fic recs would probably involve trawling the archives I know about, and with some archives, being on them is already a rec.... Besides, I think everybody I know who reads X-fic can find it already.
Collect fics off OTL and CTL that I want where I can find it. Send feedback. Lots of stories I'd like to feedback and haven't gotten around to....
Post compare and contrast of HP and YW.
Try making a serious post in the Slytherins forum at FAP.
Promote my own fics. (Our own fics, in many cases.)
Update at SQ.
Write! Writewritewrite. I wanted to get five chapters (of five different fics) out in January. Clearly this did not happen: [livejournal.com profile] dreagoddess and I got out three chapters of the same fic, which is complete. Which is pretty good, don't get me wrong, but I would like to get out... hm... four might be too ambitious with the review document, this being me. Hmm. I shall say four anyway. Maybe even five. Yes, I am silly.
Consult people who know what they're talking about and make use of the fellowship allowance set aside to pay for such supplemental educational expenses as journal subscriptions, dues to professional sciences, health insurance, conference travel, or... a computer. *purr* I'd like a Mac laptop for convenient communication with the lab computers and giving presentations without having to mess with untangling the lab laptops... I do not like the rounded corners on the windows, though. I feel vaguely childproofed-at, when I notice. Anyone know if that's an alterable preference?

I've probably left stuff out. Actually I've left most details of actually doing my research out. Except the perpendiculars.
