Thought on JKR Time interview religion comment
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1083935-2,00.html
So when someone interviewing her said that the HP books "are free of references to God" -- which is not really true, as both wizard and Muggle characters swear rather irreverently and we have St. Mungo and the Fat Friar as clear indications of Christian influence hanging around the cultural background -- Rowling responded, 'choosing her words slowly': "Um. I don't think they're that secular. But, obviously, Dumbledore is not Jesus."
Still, as references go... I was actually trying to contemplate the potential powers of the Hufflepuff cup when "Let this cup pass from me" popped into my mind. And that associates with taking on someone else's guilt.
Hrm.

In terms of plot speculation, I'm just wondering -- since I suspect there's something more to know about that potion -- whether it has anything to do with Dumbledore coming to mind as someone to tell us wasn't Jesus. *g*
Or it could have been just because he's the character people have most commonly suggested as a metaphor for God. Or, for that matter, to avoid anybody thinking the really freaky funeral with phoenix imagery would mean he was going to be up and around in a few days....
